12 Steps to Improve Gas Mileage

1. You should check and change your air breather filter any time you see it is dirty. They should at least be changed at oil changes. Check it once in awhile between oil changes by holding it up to light to see if you can see through it. If not you should change it. If your engine can't breath good it works harder using more gas.

2. Keeping your tires at the right air pressure will improve gas mileage. Try to check them a minimum of ever two weeks.

3. A regular tune up on you car helps it burn fuel more efficiently and gets you better gas mileage.

4. This one some people my not like but lowering you speed by five miles per hour will improve your mileage.

5. Allowing your self enough time to get where you are going and not making quick starts and stop and speeding because you are late will not only save gas mileage but might prevent a ticket or worse, an accident by being rushed.

6. Using you air conditioner only when necessary. I think using the air conditioner on the highway probably doesn't reduce gas mileage much more than the windows down because of the added drag but that is just my opinion.

7. If you have Over Drive on you vehicle having it on when driving on the highway improves mileage.

8. That's the same with cruise control. A steady driving speed gives you better gas mileage. For safety you should only use cruise control according to your owners manual.
9. Don't carry a bunch of stuff around in your car or truck that you don't need as extra weight reduces your mileage.

10. Changing oil and oil filter regular keeps the engine running cooler using less gas.

11. Keeping an eye on gas pieces doesn't necessarily improve gas mileage but if you drive all over town to find the best price it does. You should find gas stations in one area that have good gas prices and shop there regularly.

12. Getting your fuel filter changed about every thirty thousand miles will help mileage.
